Illegal migration and Europe: Spike of new arrivals tripled in May as restrictions ease.

Yet, despite the bold pledges of the last five years, the deportations out of Europe have not materialized. 🤨

* All eyes will be on the PMs of Greece and Malta, who both vowed to their citizens that deportations back to countries of origin would begin in earnest in 2020. The rhetoric is getting old and they must start delivering.

Central Europe and the Balkans, in particular, are feeling the heavy pressure from the leakage in Greece, as aggressive Afghan illegals and others flood the region. Others have to start pressuring the Greek government (and the EU, which is giddy to help with relocations) to start sending the illegals back home. Frontex must start doing more than watching and counting as the illegals enter Europe.

– More than 6,900 illegals came along the Western Balkan route in the first five months of 2020, a 50% increase over the same period last year. Most are from Afghanistan, with some reports of mini-mafias being formed in BiH.

– Almost three times as many illegal immigrants came from Libya and Tunisia across the Mediterranean to Italy and Malta compared to the same period in 2019. Most of those migrants came from Bangladesh, Sudan and the Ivory Coast.

– Spain, however, seems to have worked things out with the government of Morocco as arrivals dropped by 50%.

** With regard to the recent hijacking of the party boat in Malta, where aggressive illegals on board threatened the crew with violence, the PM of Malta – Robert Abela – has vowed to deport the illegals : (translated) “If you see the nationalities of the persons who were on board the vessels, and even of those who had already entered Malta in the weeks before, you have a number of them, a substantial quantity who do not qualify for asylum…and therefore anyone who does not qualify for asylum…yes, we will take them back to their country. That’s the way you want it to work.”

Maybe Abela can deliver while striking off the record deals with Libya. As for the EU-approved, leftist government in Italy, it has surrendered and will rely on the EU to redistribute the illegals across the bloc. Brussels, Berlin and Paris will make sure this happens for fear of ushering in a new government of Salvini and Meloni…in which all of Europe desperately needs at this point.
