V4 Report. EU Future Part II: There is no doubt that Brussels must be dramatically downsized, but the Eurocrats will not give up their seats of power without a fight. This is the problem with global institutions such as the EU. The political opportunists who feed off the government system will naturally keep seeking to expand its scope and power.
They key is to reduce the revenue being sent to Brussels. They must be starved at the source. Eventually, for those who demand less from Brussels (and we agree with these calls), one must also be prepared to expect less from the EU, which is a positive development for freedom and prosperity in the long-term.
The EU should focus on helping the nation states secure the external borders, deporting illegal migrants and supporting the national states with a few other tasks. Their powers should be limited. The sheer growth of this global institution into areas beyond its scope is alarming and threatens to devour the independence and sovereignty of the European nation states.
Besides the break-up of the Union, which remains a real possibility, we see no other way to reduce its scope and power other than by drastically slashing the money sent to Brussels by all the nation states in the first place.
Of course, the nation states and private businesses would be required to do more on their own in many areas, which is our point. They often do it better, more efficiently and without the bureaucratic strings attached.
Onward! Choose freedom and prosperity, not the false security preached by the socialists of Brussels.
