The new Libyan government says migration is beyond its control and not among its priorities.
Not exactly great news for Europe! 🤨
Yet, are they not correct? The ultimate responsibility for defending the EU borders lies with Europe, not Libya or Turkey.
Unfortunately, despite what they claim (without actions), securing the borders is not a priority for the EU…or it would have taken tough action long ago to deny entry.
The V4 Report has always warned about outsourcing border control to foreign countries, such as Turkey or Libya. This leaves one vulnerable to the demands of an outside player, as the EU experienced with Erdogan.
Yes, one can make small side deals, but in the end, the nations of Europe cannot primarily rely on foreigners to defend their borders. Not only is this unwise, but it’s negligent.
In the end, Europe cannot rely on unstable nations like Turkey or Libya to defend its own borders.
They need to ‘man-up’ to do this themselves.
Don’t expect much from the EU in this regard. 😉
