Poland: Very interesting 🤔. This is one of the many shenanigans that can happen when elections are delayed.
Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski has been chosen by Poland’s opposition Civic Platform (PO) party as its contender in the country’s presidential race after its previous candidate withdrew due to abysmal poll ratings. The election was scheduled for May 10th.
Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska, who was the PO’s candidate when the election was scheduled to take place, announced that she was stepping aside to make room for a candidate who could have a better chance of defeating the conservative incumbent in an upcoming election.
How convenient. 😏
According to state news agency PAP, Kidawa-Błońska’s approval ratings plunged from over 20 percent in February to a mere 4 percent in April.
Trzaskowski’s is a left-leaning mayor and his term has been marked by a series of controversies, and he was criticised by conservatives for supporting the LGBT agenda.
* One guesses there will be no outrage from the EU media or Manfred Weber and the EPP, but using the coronavirus delay (after the original election date was delayed) to replace one’s candidate far behind in the polls is bottom-shelf politics and smells of Donald Tusk…but why expect anything different from a desperate and dying Civic Platform.
