The EU media has conveniently forgotten about the details of the EU-Turkey deal regarding deportations…and so has Brussels.

* Merkel has been all over the map, months ago claiming the EU-Turkey deal was not working; today, claiming the deal is still valid, despite the recent actions of Turkey along the Greek border and the utter lack of returns to Turkey. It has always been a one-way flow from Turkey to the EU.

2019, we wrote ✍️ Either they are lazy or intentionally fabricate the details of the so-called “1-1” swap.

Example from German media: “Since that deal was struck, only 1,904 people have been deported to Turkey, while 24,348 Syrians who arrived in Europe via Turkey have been settled in EU countries.”

Wow, this is bad (and it got twice as bad, now a 50-1 swap) but also very misleading. The numbers are far worse when one considers:

* The “1-1” swap was only supposed to involve Syrians, not other non-Syrian “irregulars”. So 24,348 Syrians should have been sent back to Turkey from the EU; however, Brussels made a mistake by resettling the Syrians without sending back an equal amount of Syrians from the EU to Turkey.

It states that only 1,904 “people” (most probably non-Syrians) were sent back to Turkey.

** The other part of the deportation deal did not involve equal swaps (believe it was March 20, 2016) and stated that “all irregular migrants” who were found to have entered the EU through Turkey without having already undergone the formal asylum application process in Turkey would be sent back to Turkey to be placed at the end of the application line.

This is why the EU was sending Erdogan all that money, but it was not as if Erdogan refused to take them back…he was rarely presented with the choice; rather, the government of Greece (under Tsipras) failed to implement the returns of “all irregulars” to Turkey.

Bottom line: That’s 3.5 years of illegals flooding Greece…and only 1,904 illegals were sent back to Turkey.

As we read today, 1,904 illegals entering Greece sounds like a “slow week” on the islands.

The EU message – which includes a Frontex still involved with “rescues” in Greece – became quite clear to the migrants: reach Greece and you will not be sent back.

Is it any wonder why Greece and the Balkans are under intense pressure today. It’s called “cowardice masquerading as tolerance”, which pretty much sums up what some refer to as core “EU values”. ✍️

*** Let’s be clear: Turkey is a safe country and NATO member; thus any migrant entering Greece via Turkey is not longer a refugee but an illegal migrant who must be sent back immediately and should not be permitted to file for asylum in EU.
