“Instead of national contributions, we need own resources” (e.g. a tax on big internet platforms, big polluters and whomever or whatever they can think of next).

Wow, an unlimited revenue source to increase the powers of Brussels and charlatans like Verhofstadt; imagine the corruption and increased influence of EU opportunists and bottom-shelf Eurocrats. No more haggling about member state contributions. How convenient to increase the scope of Brussels.

Brussels is trying to take the next step towards a federal Europe.

The EU zealot has proposed a major power grab by Brussels and called for the bloc to take control of taxes as the EU budget crisis continues.

– The former Brexit Coordinator for the European Parliament has ordered the EU27 to replace national contributions with a new tax revenue stream, as the bloc faces a £62billion (€75billion) black hole left by Brexit. Mr Verhofstadt called on Brussels to “revolutionise” the budget after EU leaders ended a marathon summit on Friday without a resolution to the bloc’s seven-year multi-annual financial framework (MFF). The arch-europhile said the EU needs its “own resources” and proposed the introduction of a tax on “big internet platforms or big polluters”.

It sounds tempting, but increasing the EU budget ultimately involves expending scope of EU.
