Tunisian migrants reach Italy despite coronavirus lockdown. Plenty of safe ports in Tunisia for returns.
The paper says that “191 Tunisian illegal immigrants breached the sea border last Friday and reached Italy’s shores”.
No excuse not to deport them back, plus Tunisia has plenty of safe ports as well for the NGOs, who obviously have a different agenda than just “saving lives”.
If EU was truly interested in decreasing the migrant demand for Europe, it would deport swiftly and with a purpose. Instead, the bloc only lures more with “relocation” schemes while creating the misleading image that Libya is the only port in Africa.
Is Tunisia refusing to take back citizens? It really has no choice unless EU bloc tolerates it. EU has economic leverage on Tunisia but is just too weak to use it. Between 2011 and 2018, EU assistance to Tunisia amounted to over €2.5 billion (over €1.7 billion in grants and €800 million in macro-financial assistance).
– Irregular migration from Tunisia to Italy via the Mediterranean sea is continuing despite coronavirus fears, a lockdown and the holy month of Ramadan, according to London based newspaper Al-Araby al-Jadid.
“Another 37 migrants left from Tunisia to Europe last month, and they have arrived in Italy,” according to Ramadan ben Omar, a media spokesperson at the Tunisian Forum for Social and Economic Rights.
According to the sources, there are “organised networks” trying to “exploit the current situation to traffic more people while authorities are busy” with coronavirus and the lockdown.
The authorities are busy? 😏🙈
