V4 Report: Germany: Angela Merkel’s Bavarian “sisters” at CSU warn the socialists at SPD to stick to the deal on migrants. What a “show circus” in Germany.
Why is a party that calls itself “conservative” enabling Merkel and forming deals on migration with left-wing Socialists? Are the CSU leaders this desperate to keep their seats of power?
Top officials in the Bavarian “sister party” of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s CDU warned the Social Democrats (SPD) that failure to stick to agreements on migrants could cause the collapse of the potential new German government.
The CSU sounds like a weak parent warning a child against doing something “one more time” without repercussions…..over and over again. No one takes them seriously.
** The V4 Report has heard these “warnings” from Horst Seehofer and the CSU in the past and we have little trust in their sincerity. It is often heavy in political theatre but light in meaningful action. There is an election this year in Bavaria.
Bavarian premier Horst Seehofer, who heads Bavaria’s CSU, told the Augsburger Allgemeine newspaper that new legislation was planned to make it easier to return failed migrants to Tunisia, Morocco and Algeria, and to set up migrant centres in border areas until asylum applications could be processed.
We have heard this for two years now. Seehofer may be talking tough again right before the Bavarian election. However, last year, the German government actually “defeated” a measure to make it easier to deport migrants to Tunisia, Morocco and Algeria.
If the SPD refused to support these laws after agreeing to a coalition, “that would be the end of the government”, Seehofer told the newspaper. He said it would be unacceptable if the SPD did not stick to the agreements made with the so-called conservatives.
One of these days, the CSU will have to “grow” from sisterhood to *manhood to provide real opposition in Germany…..or someone else will. If Seehofer and the CSU are looking for respect, they can start by breaking free of the CDU – instead of enabling Angela Merkel and the Socialists to carry on.
Both Germany and Europe can do better….much better!
* “manhood” is definitely not UN approved gender language.
