Has one noticed who seems to be having a big impact (equal to Merkel so far) in Brussels?

Emmanuel Macron, rejected by Europe but worshipped in Brussels.

* Only in the EU can one be roundly defeated on many fronts, but end up as the winner in Brussels.

Macron loses France, Visegrad defeated him time and time again on migration and Matteo Salvini clearly outperformed and outshined him. Even Angela Merkel rebuffed him at times and most Europeans, especially in Central Europe, reject his vision for Europe…yet it is Macron who seems to be driving the debate in Brussels.

It may not be possible to reform the EU as a version of Germany’s Grand Coalition establishes itself in Brussels.  The West EU bloc has the numbers and thinks differently than Central Europe….liberals, Greens, Socialists and Berlin’s EPP (center-left at best) are now forming an EU ‘Grand Coalition+’ to dominate.  Ironically, they will try to isolate three of the biggest election winners (Orban, PiS, Salvini).

Post-election actions, more than election results, are the driving force.  This is very revealing and disturbing if one studies the political situation in Germany.
