* Austrian Election Debate: Freedom Party (FPÖ) leader Heinz-Christian Strache expressed strong support for Hungary’s migration policy and thanked Prime Minister Viktor Orban for erecting a fence on the country’s southern border to close the external Schengen border.
Current Chancellor Christian Kern (SPO), a strong ally of Emmanuel Macron and the EU Core, criticized both Orban’s “anti-EU stance” and his refusal to accept migrants. According to Kern, who is a member of the Party of European Socialists (PES), Orban’s policy is dangerous for Europe and Austria’s economy. It appears the EU’s preferred candidate – rocked by scandal and sinking in the polls – has imploded. We believe Kern is finished.
The leader of the Freedom Party urged closer cooperation with the V4 and proposed that Austria could become a member of the regional cooperation.
The election is this Sunday. We wish the Freedom Party (FPO) the best.
