* Austria election update: Austria’s election campaign has been rocked by a huge scandal that may bury current PM Christian Kern. The EU Core and its loyal supporters continue to meltdown.

** The SPO may have attacked its biggest challenger, Sebastian Kurz, on Facebook using xenophobic memes and conspiracy theories. On Saturday, Austrian magazine Profil revealed that two Facebook pages used to attack and discredit Kurz were linked to a former SPÖ election advisor named Tal Silberstein.

*** Heinz-Christian Strache, the leader of the anti-migrant FPÖ said: “This is no longer a Silberstein issue. This is a Kern issue.” The FPÖ has called for the chancellor to resign.

**** A member of the SPÖ’s executive board, who had previously denied any links between the Facebook pages and the party, resigned over the weekend. Kern has pledged to complete an investigation into the smear campaign by the election.

The V4 Report: We knew the attacks on Kurz and the FPO were coming, but we did not realize how low some members of the SPO would go. This is what happens when politicians desperately attempt to retain their seats of power. Vienna is not alone. In Brussels, EU Ministers have shamelessly slandered both Poland and Hungary in an attempt to expand their power and scope over the internal affairs of the nation states. Power is both intoxicating and addictive. If left unchecked, it can be used as an instrument of abuse.

Kern may not have been directly involved, but it’s hard to believe he did not know of its existence. We expect a little more “due diligence” from the PM of Austria.

Regardless, the SPO and Kern will not be able to blame this scandal for the results. We believe Kern and the SPO were finished long ago when they accepted Angela Merkel’s call for EU Solidarity on migration. Austria was flooded with illegal migrants. In our earlier posts, we documented the rising rates of crimes, including sexual attacks, committed by the migrants.

Christian Kern, who attempted to divide the V4 with his ally Emmanuel Macron this summer, will go down in defeat not due to any scandals, but because he failed Austria.

The V4 Report looks forward to a new coalition in Austria involving Sebastian Kurz (OVP) and the Freedom Party (FPO). While many challenges remain, including a far-left president who will do his best to disrupt the building of this new coalition, we believe it will happen.

If Angela Merkel and Emmanuel Macron were stunned over the disastrous election results in Germany, they will be rocked by the upcoming storm in Austria. This has not been a good fall season for the EU Core.

Onward V4! Keep up the fight, the tide is turning as the Winds of Change emerge from the central-eastern region of Europe.
