Extraordinary V4 summit in Budapest.

– According to unnamed sources, the prime ministers will agree on joint candidates for the top positions, mainly for the president of the European Commission and the Council, so when they attend the Council’s summit next week in Brussels, they will already have a united standpoint.

The meeting was initiated by Czech PM Andrej Babis, and the goal is to keep the V4 united despite the fact that all its ruling parties sit in different party families.

* Eventually, it would be great if these countries could unite under a V4+ centre-right EP Group consisting of other conservatives and nationalists in Central-Eastern Europe (CEE). The region needs to counterbalance the influence of Berlin and Paris, and they would work well with Salvini’s group on the right.

With a new party on the right emerging in the Czech Republic, Babis may now feel the heat to exit Guy Verhofstadt’s ALDE Group. Verhofstadt is a zealot and his group is not something that should be associated with Czechs or Central Europe.
