Gotta eat, right? Don’t worry, the Green Deal will save the EU

Gotta eat, right? Don’t worry, the Green Deal will save the EU. ‘Slovakia’s food is for Slovakians,’ Slovakia’s trade restrictions leave EU fuming. https://tfiglobalnews.com/2022/05/14/slovakias-food-is-for-slovakians-slovakias-trade-restrictions-leave-eu-fuming/? * Well, this is certainly not a done deal (and there is much more to it than just the headline) but a proposal in Slovakia to impose restrictions on wheat exports could set in a domino effect across the bloc. Of course, the Eurocrats are upset, arguing that it breaks EU free trade laws, which it may, illustrating the heavy chains of Brussels. The EU Commission spokesman said, “In such challenging times, it is of utmost importance to coordinate and align all decisions within the EU and with our close partners,” and also highlighted that the EU has a “heavy responsibility to meet these challenges head-on and united”. All decisions aligned with the EU? 🤦‍♂️ However, some may choose to defend their country as opposed to relying on clerks from Brussels, who are not actually looking out for the best interests of the nation states. To them, EU unity – at all costs – is what must be worshipped. While free trade may be EU law in theory, a sovereign and independent country will choose self-survival (if this is necessary) over some mythical notion of EU solidarity. At least, one would hope so, but the EU is a strange place. – The war in Ukraine has taken away a major source of wheat supply and other food commodities. Therefore, countries around the world are looking to secure their foodgrain supplies either by finding new import sources or by restricting their exports. ** The US government is another example, since it has recklessly expanded its war commitments around the globe during the last several decades. Ironically, although they are not alone, it has been the US instigating much of the war across the globe. Is the global empire and golden goose of NATO being stretched too thin, where someday it’s debt-ridden economy, facing high inflation in a perpetual war economy, will not be able to sustain its own well-being…let alone all those countries dependent on it? At least the military industrial complex is now fat and happy…not to mention all of those neocon think tanks getting large amounts of money to find new places to bomb (calling for Iran next). 😬 In addition, Turkey is now eying another opportunity to shake down the US/EU for more cash, this time threatening to derail NATO membership for Finland and Sweden until Erdogan gets his way. For a bloc that touts “EU sovereignty”, it sure seems like it is dependent on a lot of foreign powers. 🤫
