Italy: Aquarius, a migrant transfer ship, was seized after the NGO was accused of dumping dangerous waste at Italian ports.
Interior Minister Matteo Salvini, who has accused the NGOs of human trafficking, said on Twitter that the allegations vindicated his hardline stance:
“I was right to block NGO boats. I stopped not just the smuggling of immigrants but also, so it seems, the smuggling of waste.”
– Doctors Without Borders (MSF), one of two charities that operate the Aquarius rescue ship, is accused of improperly disposing of the waste accumulated during its activities at sea, including the remains of food, medical waste and “contaminated clothing worn by non-EU citizens”, according to the police charge sheet seen by Ansa news agency.
The investigation concerns 24 tonnes of waste and 11 different Italian ports, according to the filing.
Italian authorities have placed 24 people under investigation for ‘‘trafficking and the illegal management of waste,” including the captain of the Aquarius, Evgenii Talanin, and Michele Trainiti, deputy head of the Italy mission of MSF Belgium. The Sicilian prosecutors also fined MSF a total of €460,000 (£409,000) and froze some of its bank accounts based in Italy.
** The NGOs have absolutely no concern for Italians or Europeans. It’s all about their multicult agenda.
Unfortunately, EU Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos views the NGOs as partners of Brussels, while Spain has surrendered its border to the radical open-border activists.
Salvini was spot-on to stop them in Italy, their reckless behavior has exposed all in Europe and must not be tolerated.
