Italy: Salvini, Meloni make up with hug, we’ll govern together.

Italy: Salvini, Meloni make up with hug, we’ll govern together.

Apparently (and we do not know the specifics), the Brothers of Italy (FdI) leader (Meloni) stood up the League leader (Salvini) at a stump event for a joint candidate in Milan the previous day.

“There is political affection, we are destined to govern together”, said Salvini at the joint event in favour of centre-right candidate Enrico Michetti.

* Hopefully, this is the case, but there were bound to be tensions between the two considering the circumstances.

Salvini and Lega, after initial reservations, chose to be part of the Draghi regime, while Meloni and the Fdl took the path of the patriotic opposition.

Naturally, when Meloni rightfully criticizes the government (an opposition is extremely vital), it can also be seen as an indirect hit on Lega, which is part of Draghi’s ruling coalition.

While Lega’s support has been cut sharply, Meloni has risen dramatically in the polls. Only one can be the PM if this coalition eventually forms a government in the future.

There are many other factors involved in which the V4 Report has discussed before, including Italy’s EPP Party (the third wheel in this coalition), which, in our opinion, could be giving Salvini bad advice and trying to isolate Meloni.

Unfortunately, we see more tensions along the way. How this will impact the future of the coalition remains to be seen?

We just don’t like the current political environment, which could weaken and hinder this bond in the future.

This is exactly what Brussels and the EU establishment is trying to accomplish.
