Malta: Some good news, but still a little light.
Illegals returned to their country of origin after asylum applications rejected.
Hopefully, this is a start to a regular stream of deportations and more than just a one-time show.
Unfortunately, no numbers were available at the time (it looks very light) and these illegals arrived in 2019, which means the pace is too slow and the backlog is still massive.
But it’s a start and much better than the opposition’s (Metsola EPP) constant whining about solidarity.
However, we would like to see numbers (EU should pay a bonus for deportations out of Europe instead of paying states to resettle illegals in EU) based on some deportation percentage goal to maintain focus and to discourage new arrivals…75% of all illegals in 2021 would be a nice down payment and a sign that the government is serious.
We wish them the best and to keep raising the bar.
