Poland: PiS leader says, “We want to be in the EU…But at the same time, we want to remain a sovereign state.”
* Good luck with that…the EU has expanded far beyond its original scope and we do not believe this is possible long term.
Parts of the judicial reform in Poland were already modified or dissolved to meet the demands of Brussels, which is still not satisfied. Sovereignty?
** Is this possible considering the demands from Brussels, including delays in billions of euros of stimulus funding which are being linked to modifications of national policies?
We will see who blinks first…but we find nothing independent about modifying policies based on blackmail…or having to answer to Vera Jourova.
All the polls clearly show that Poles want to remain in the EU…but at what price?
One can argue semantics all day, but sovereignty is about making one’s own decisions, without outside interference.
We just do not see, based on the current parameters, how one can maintain true sovereignty and freedom while accepting a lower status of ‘member state’…often answering to unelected and shallow opportunists such as Jourova.
The EU has been grabbing more and more power…year after year. Unfortunately, we don’t see this trend reversing, especially after the EU Summit disaster of 2019
Someone or something must break…stay tuned.
