Round one. Matteo Salvini takes bold action to defend Italy from NGO transfer ships.
Doctors Without Borders (MSF) forced to end migrant transfer operations in the Mediterranean carried out by the vessel Aquarius.
Salvini welcomed MSF’s move. “Fewer sailings, fewer landings, fewer deaths. That’s good,” he tweeted.
Salvini accused the open-border activists of collaborating with people-traffickers operating out of Libya to run a “taxi service” to Italian ports.
* The false narrative of Angela Merkel, Brussels and the media does no not hold up. Mass migration can be stopped but it requires the will to do so and the focus and determination to get it done. The same can be said for deportations back to Africa, the Middle East and elsewhere.
It’s just not enough to throw money at Africa or to ask them for cooperation. Hardball tactics are needed with these leaders, encompassing the full force of economic sanctions, the suspension of all aid and diplomatic isolation.
We think attitudes in Africa would be adjusted pretty quickly.
