Spain elections: A great night for conservative nationalists at VOX and the ECR Group.
– Europe Elects on Twitter: National conservative VOX (ECR) increases its national voteshare from 10,3% to 15,1% tonight, netting the party over twice the seats compared to April, 52.
VOX is now Spain’s third largest party…not bad for a relatively new party. Onwards!
* The V4 Report believes the ECR Group – which includes the PiS of Poland and G. Meloni (Brothers of Italy) – is emerging as the the future base for conservative nationalists. This group is much needed and must grow and strengthen to emerge as the centre-right faction that is willing to work with Salvini’s group on right.
Obviously, we believe adding Fidesz would be a game-changer in many ways, and would attract others nationalists from the CEE region.
With Donald Tusk likely to be the next leader of the EPP, the party – which contains a heavy dose of Germany’s Grand Coalition – will likely continue to try to isolate the PiS and Salvini in order to work with EU federalists (Renew Europe) and Socialists in Brussels.
