UK: Turning back migrant boats at sea ‘could be key component in tackling crossings’.
Yes…and one does not need Detective Columbo to figure this out, although slashing benefits would be the other necessary component.
The UK Government believes there is “lawful basis for that kind of activity”, Home Office minister for immigration compliance Chris Philp said. But he said France is not in agreement: “The French operational posture on the water is that they don’t forcibly intercept migrant boats. They will rescue them if they start sinking and if the migrants request assistance but they do not currently forcibly intercept migrant boats while in French waters.”
How convenient. But if they take off from France, what can Macron really do if they are directed and pulled back to France? Maybe he can give another speech? 😂
