Victory for Germany’s ‘mini-Merkel’ and EU federalists will push more countries to quit EU, warns ex-MEP.
Maybe…but the choice will eventually be between euros and the false notion of collective security versus self-government and preserving one’s culture and way of life.
Hans-Olaf Henkel, a former German MEP who had backed the significantly more eurosceptic Mr. Merz, believes Laschet’s victory will pave the wave for more federalism and consequently more resentment throughout the bloc.
“With Laschet’s victory, Chancellor Merkel has won her last battle. Not only were Roettgen and Merz arch-enemies of her, but Laschet will also ensure that an honest and overdue discussion about Merkel’s big mistakes will not take place.”
Henkel continued: “Whether Kohl, Schroeder, Merkel or Laschet: without Britain, France has no real opposition anymore for her desire to form the EU like France: centralized, bureaucratic and state interventionistic.”
With the UK gone, expect the EU establishment, especially France, to push for more power and scope. The ultimate goal is a federal EU.
They may over-reach, especially if the UK prospers outside the bloc, which it is likely to do without all the EU red tape and solidarity as defined by Germany. 😂
