What’s going on in Italy with the UN Migration Pact? It really should not be this complex.

What’s going on in Italy with the UN Migration Pact? It really should not be this complex.

At the Chamber, the Brothers of Italy with Giorgia Meloni (the V4 Report featured her a few days ago on video) presented a motion that clearly stated that Italy should not join the UN Global Migration Compact.

Meloni had taken on this battle from the beginning, but the resolution apparently was voted down by not only the PD (Renzi, obvious) but also the League and the 5 Stars.

It does not end here. The motion that passed at the end, and on which the Government has given a favorable opinion, commits the executive to do ‘extensive evaluations’ before deciding whether to join or not.

And so with 277 votes in favor, 224 against and three abstentions, the House Chamber approved the motion of the majority on the Global compact.

“The government commits itself to postpone the decision regarding Italy’s accession to the Global Compact following a broad assessment with reference to its effective scope”, said the motion presented to the House by the majority and signed by the M5S and League group leaders.

* The translation was tough and Salvini cannot be for this, but there was a motion presented by Meloni to immediately opt-out, but this was defeated.

The troubling aspect? Why did the League not vote with Meloni to kill the Pact right here and right now? How many more evaluations does one need?
