When the outcome does not go as planned in Brussels… EU Parliament Abruptly Shelves Forecasts of Upcoming Election.
Please see the V4 Report’s post from March 14th below to discover the reasons: The New Right’s increasing influence in Europe 👉 Parties of the right to nearly double seats in the upcoming EU elections.
– The European Parliament scaled back its plan to publish regular forecasts of upcoming election results after most of the assembly’s political groups expressed objections.
Most or two of the biggest projected losers? According to Bild, both the EPP and Socialist groups are heading in the wrong direction and face big losses. Manfred Weber’s European People’s Party (EPP), which includes Chancellor Angela Merkel’s CDU, was expected to lose 43 seats, dropping to 174.
The Progressive Alliance of Socialists & Democrats (S&P) is predicted to lose 45 seats to 141.
– The European Union legislature intends to release only two — rather than seven — more projections of the 705 seats to be held by national parties after the May 23-26 ballot.
Why the sudden change? The poll confirmed deep scepticism about established mainstream parties, and indicated that the rightward shift that has swept Europe in recent years was slated to continue on the European level.
The winners: The published poll showed the Europe of Nations and Freedom Group, which includes Austria’s FPO party and Matteo Salvini’s League, were likely to win 67 seats.
Parties of the right came out on top in three of the six countries surveyed, including Poland, which is led by the ruling PiS party.
* Brussels will have to face reality sooner or later.
