Why the EU elections matter: Salvini defies Brussels and vows to keep the ports closed in Italy.
This is a vital national security interest for all of Europe. Think about this situation of chaos in Libya long and hard.
Do you want a strong Matteo Salvini defending Europe (with Orban and company) or the likes of Guy Verhofstadt, Ska Keller, Frans Timmermans or Merkel’s ally in Germany, Manfred Weber?
Choices have consequences.
* Salvini: “The NGO Sea-Watch 3 (Dutch Flag) is sailing in the Mediterranean towards Libya. Notice to skippers: do not think of helping smugglers and boarding migrants to head to Italy because they will be stopped, by every lawful means. This notice is also addressed to the nostalgic cries of the “open the ports” crowd present in parliament.”
– Whatever one thinks of the national parties of the candidates for the EU election, this is not the main issue. Think of the leaders of those groups in the EU Parliament. It is often they who decide for the MEPs.
A viable strategy at this stage for all those concerned about mass migration is to make Matteo Salvini’s group as strong as possible in the Parliament. When voting, it may be wise to choose candidates/parties that belong to Team Salvini (the Europe of Nations and Freedom (ENF) bloc).
In the end, it is the leaders of these groupings that have the influence and power, not the individual MEPs.
Think wisely, think Salvini.
